Privacy Policy

By using the youwereme.com web site (the 'service'), you accept the following privacy policy ('Privacy Policy'). You are also aware of our Terms of Service located on the youwereme.com web site. Using the Service is also governed by the Terms of Service.

Your privacy is very important to us. Accordingly, we have developed this Policy in order for you to understand what information we collect and how we make use of it. The following outlines our Privacy Policy.

We will protect personal information by reasonable safeguards against loss and theft. Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is used while a conversation is in progress to digitally encrypt data as it is transferred from your computer to the Service and from the Service to your computer.

When you join the Service using our online registration form, we may collect your user name, email address, password, age group, gender, origin and other personal information listed in the registration form. Your user name is used throughout the site to identify you. Therefore you should be aware that if you use your real name as your user name, this information will be visible to others who visit the Service. The email address is primarily used for the mechanism of sending a new password. It may also be used to notify you about information related to the site. Should you lose your password, we won't be able to retrieve it because we don’t store passwords in plain text. Profile data is used for the purpose of connecting users. Your profile is visible to the user you're connected to. You can review, update and change some of your personally identifiable information including your email address and profile data on the 'My Account' page.

We don't log the contents of your conversation but we do store information about the conversation session. This includes user names, start time, duration, cost, rating, number of typed characters and other metadata. This information is primarily used to create statistics, to troubleshoot problems (in combination with your profile data) and to enforce our Terms of Service. We also keep track of date and time when you register and each time you log-in to our site.

We keep track of user performance by measuring user activity. 'Activity Points' are assigned when you request a conversation and participate in a conversation. The total number of 'Activity Points' is for instance revealed to the connected user during the conversation. It may also appear together with your user name in the compiled list of top ranked users. 'User Points' are assigned only when you participate in a conversation. The total number of 'User Points' is not revealed to other users. It is primarily used to check whether you are eligible to request a conversation.

User account and conversation session information is never completely removed from our databases due to the fact that we back up our systems. Therefore, our user’s personally identifiable information may not be completely removed from our databases in response to user requests.

We do not link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable. This means that your session will be tracked, but you will remain anonymous. We reserve the right to track IP addresses for the purposes of fraud prevention, and we reserve the right to release IP addresses to legal authorities.

Except as explicitly stated herein, we do not sell, rent or trade any personally identifiable information to third parties.

We are continuously developing the features and the functionality of this Service. Therefore we also reserve the right to modify the Privacy Policy at any time without notice to you. You agree that you will be bound to any modifications when you use the Service after such modification has occurred. It is therefore important that you review the Privacy Policy regularly.
